From Student Admissions Files

Yale on Extra Math Classes

"Blown stem curriculum out of water & hungry for more," "self-driven nature," "radiates passion," "abilities, curiosity, initiative."

Taking high level courses outside school was seen as intellectual hunger. Yale repeatedly praised student for going beyond school curriculum.

Duke on Extra Math Classes

“What impressed them was that I took math classes in the summer so that I could ‘skip ahead’ to Multivariable Calculus and Linear Algebra.”

AO commented that this was more impressive than the applicant’s perfect GPA.

Duke on Extra College Level Courses

“I was homeschooled so no AP/IB classes but I took 16 classes at community college...Tbh I was surprised to have received such a high Course Rigor score.”

Student received a 4 out of 5 from both AOs on Course Rigor score. Student was homeschooled, but they received the same Course Rigor as 12 APs.

Need more than 12 APs

"I took 12 APs throughout high school and every honors class that my school offered, so I'm a little surprised I didn't get a 5 from one of the AOs."

Student only received a 4 out of 5 from both AOs on Course Rigor Score. Students who took 15 AP classes received 5's from AOs, but this student only received a 4 after taking 12 APs.

Common Questions

How would PrimePrep classes work?

PrimePrep offers two learning formats:

1. Synchronous (Live-Paced)

  • Set weekly schedule

  • Instructors walk students through lessons and assignments

  • Regular reviews, quizzes, and tests for mastery

Best for students who need structure and real-time teaching

2. Asynchronous (Self-Paced + Mentoring)

  • Students move at their own pace

  • Mentor checks progress daily and set weekly goals

  • Optional help sessions for instruction and questions

Best for motivated students who want flexibility

Fastest Completion Timeline

Semester course: 6–8 weeks with full effort (usually 8–12 weeks)
Full-year course: 12–16 weeks with accelerated pacing

What kind of support do students receive?

Every PrimePrep student receives two layers of support:

1. Academic Instruction

  • Synchronous students attend live, teacher-led lessons

  • Asynchronous students attend help sessions where tutors explain concepts, walk through examples, and prepare students for tests

2. Mentoring & Accountability

All students get a dedicated PrimePrep mentor who:

  • checks progress daily

  • sets weekly milestones

  • reminds students of due dates

  • communicates with parents

  • intervenes early if the student is falling behind

  • offers extra 1:1 or small-group sessions when needed

Students who struggle with independence receive more frequent check-ins, optional daily study blocks, and structured pacing to keep them on track.

Will my grades count towards my GPA?

Yes. PrimePrep courses are official, credit-bearing high-school classes.
Grades appear on the student’s transcript and can be factored into GPA by their school.

PrimePrep provides:

  • full course grade

  • completion documentation

  • credit verification for the school counselor

Upon course completion, school counselors will receive the final transcript or grade report, and it is added like any other high-school credit.

How does signup and enrollment work?

Step 1 — Consultation

  • We help families choose the right course (AP, Honors, Core, Credit Recovery, or Advancement).

Step 2 — Course Setup

  • PrimePrep creates the student’s learning portal and prepares the pacing calendar.

Step 3 — Mentor Assignment

  • A mentor is matched with the student and begins daily monitoring from day one.

Step 4 — Start Learning

  • Students begin classes immediately and receive ongoing support, instruction, and weekly progress reports.

How common are classes like PrimePrep?

Very common. This model has been growing rapidly across Northern Virginia. Loudoun County public school enrollment continues to decline due to reasons such as uneven instructional quality and families opting for alternative education. At the same time, districts like FCPS have offered online self-paced courses for years, although only highly informed parents tend to know these options exist.

Bottom line: Our online courses are fully accredited and transfer without issues. We still make sure students notify their school counselors in advance to ensure smooth scheduling and avoid any issues when selecting future classes.
